You lead a team that creates software products for a wide range of research and translational projects. You are responsible for making sure projects are delivered on time, meet high engineering standards, and are easy to maintain in the long term. You build and manage a strong project pipeline by working closely with different partners and stakeholders.

Deine Aufgaben

  • Lead and oversee software projects from start to finish, including setting clear goals, planning milestones, managing risks, and ensuring proper documentation
  • Set and enforce high standards for software architecture, code quality, testing, and documentation
  • Take ownership of delivering results across several projects at the same time, even when requirements change
  • Build strong relationships with researchers, clinicians, hospitals, and partners, and turn conversations into well-defined project proposals
  • Guide full-stack and data-focused solutions, from database modeling to API design to user-facing web applications and dashboards
  • Help turn project work into reusable tools that strengthen the internal product portfolio
  • Promote security that is practical and fits the purpose, keeping systems open when possible and protected when needed
  • Make sure systems are ready for real-world research and clinical use, with clear documentation and smooth handovers to operations teams
  • Work closely with teams in Clinical Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Systems Operations, and Screening & Lab Automation to deliver complete solutions
  • Recruit, mentor, and support your team, encouraging ownership and ongoing improvement
  • Plan resources, set priorities, and help with budgeting and reporting for your group

Was du mitbringst

  • Proven leadership experience in software engineering
  • Experience leading delivery across multiple stakeholders and projects
  • Strong skills in building trust, scoping projects, and managing expectations
  • Experience designing and building data-focused software solutions end-to-end (including databases, APIs, and web applications)
  • Strong Linux/Unix skills, scripting (bash, Python), and automation mindset
  • Experience with containerization (Docker or similar)
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Track record of setting team-wide practices like code reviews, testing strategy, CI/CD, release process, and documentation standards
  • Experience building software for security-conscious environments with practical judgement
  • Data engineering experience (ETL/ELT design, validation, interoperability patterns) is a plus
  • Experience working with hospital IT or clinical workflows is a plus
  • Knowledge of German is an advantage
