Join a research project focused on improving food waste supply chains and supporting sustainable food systems in Uganda and Malawi. You will work with two leading research groups at ETH Zurich and contribute to developing solutions for better use of organic waste. The position is for 4 years and starts in June 2026. Salary and social benefits follow ETH Zurich rules.

Deine Aufgaben

  • Develop a doctoral proposal with research questions, methods, courses, and a time plan
  • Plan and carry out surveys with restaurants, organic waste traders, and farmers
  • Collect and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Present findings through scientific papers, conferences, seminars, and outreach activities like blog posts, videos, and workshops
  • Spend several months collecting data in Uganda (Kampala and surrounding area)
  • Work both independently and as part of a team
  • Collaborate with project partners in Switzerland, Uganda, and Malawi
  • Gain experience in teaching if desired (not a regular requirement)

Was du mitbringst

  • MSc degree (or soon to be completed) in development or agricultural economics, or a related field
  • Experience in collecting survey data
  • Interest in collecting and analyzing survey data
  • Background in statistics and econometrics, with practical data analysis skills
  • Desire to further develop data analysis skills
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Excellent English language skills (written and spoken)
