Join a unique research project that brings together art and physics, focusing on light quantum physics and observation. This fully funded 4-year doctoral position gives you the chance to explore the intersection of artistic and scientific perspectives at ETH Zurich. You will work closely with experts in both art and physics, using experimental and creative approaches to study fundamental phenomena of light and matter.

• Combine artistic inquiry with expanded cinematic and installative practices.
• Set up and develop an Art & Science laboratory for exploratory experiments.
• Engage with concepts and techniques from quantum optics.
• Create public artistic installations based on real physical systems.
• Work mainly at the Chair of Art in Space and Time, Department of Architecture, and closely with the Nanoscale Quantum Optics group, Department of Physics.
• Contribute to the course Understanding Light and help shape the Art & Science lab.
• Participate in both practical and theoretical research outcomes.

• Background in art, architecture, film, or a related field.
• Strong curiosity about natural sciences and interest in working across disciplines.
• Portfolio showing experimental work with light, matter, perception, and physical phenomena.
• Openness to scientific concepts, especially physics, and laboratory work.
• Motivation for long-term, in-depth doctoral research at the art–science interface.
• Comfort with uncertainty and exploratory research.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Fluency in other languages is a plus.
