This is a two-year position based at SLF Davos, working on advancing snow modelling for operational meteorological applications and improving forecasting of natural hazards like avalanches and floods.

Deine Aufgaben

  • Model snow dynamics in operational models such as ICON and SNOWPACK
  • Work to improve land surface modelling, with a focus on forecasting natural hazards
  • Collaborate with international teams of model developers
  • Integrate into the snow processes / CRYOS group at SLF and the Numerical Prediction Division at MeteoSwiss

Was du mitbringst

  • University degree in meteorology, engineering, natural sciences, or physics
  • Strong background in numerical modelling
  • Programming skills in FORTRAN, C++, Python, or GPUs
  • Interest in contributing to next-generation weather and snow models
  • Skills in German and English
  • Experience working with HPC infrastructure
